Letter from Our President about Safety
Dear Colleagues and students:
I am writing in order to provide you with the most objective, honest, and trustworthy information I have regarding the safety situation at Universidad Internacional as well as in Cuernavaca and this area of the country.
Unfortunately, we have been witnessing a series of unpleasant events on the northern border of our country, particularly in the cities of Tijuana, Juárez, and Reynosa, which are located approximately 2500 km from Cuernavaca. These events are clearly affecting the image our country as a whole has abroad.
In its almost thirty years of existence, Universidad Internacional has strived to achieve not only excellence in teaching but also the well-being of our students and group Directors. Among them, I can mention a few who have recently brought students to our institution:
Dr. Alvaro Ramírez. St Mary`s College of California, CA
Dr. Steve Stryker, California State University Stanislaus, CA
Dr. Daniel Mosquera, Union College, NY
Dr. Wendy Barr, University of Texas at Arlington School of Nursing, TX
Dr. Debbie Lee Disteffano, Southeast Missouri State University, MO
Prof. Arnaldo Rodriguex, Saratoga High School. CA
Prof. Judy Elliott. University of Missouri. MO Dr. Linda Zee, Utica College, NY
Dr. Cheryl Berman, Howard Community College. MD
Dr. Alan Randolph, University of Baltimore. MD
Prof. Alberto Trejo, Northern Arizona University. AZ
In our webpage, you will be able to find some of the testimonies that they gladly volunteered for us: http://www.spanishschool.uninter.edu.mx/safety_cuernavaca.html
In addition to these, among other academic institutions, I would like to remind you that we periodically receive students from different US government agencies as well as from renowned US-based corporations, such as Wal-Mart, Shell, Coca Cola, JPMorgan, American Express, Ford, Merck, Hewlett Packard, etc.. For a complete listing of these corporations, please visit us at:
http://www.executives.uninter.edu.mx/clients.html.
The continuous participation of representatives and executives from such prominent corporations, which has been uninterrupted to this day on which I am writing this letter, give true testimony of both the academic and safety conditions they experience not only in our institution but also in Cuernavaca and surrounding areas.
I would also like to take this opportunity to bring to your attention the recent declarations made by the spokesman of the US Department of State, Robert Word, who stated just last week that, “Mexico is a wonderful travel destination. I travel myself there frequently and do not see any reasons to tell Americans that they should not travel to Mexico. Absolutely none.” (quoted by the Attache to the US Embassy in Mexico). For further reference, I would like to invite you to visit the following page of the US Embassy in Mexico:

As the President of Universidad Internacional, I completely understand the enormous responsibility of sending students abroad. With the same sense of responsibility that has characterized us for so many years of hard work, I want you to know that if any of our American or international students in general were in a position of risk or danger either in Cuernavaca or in the areas where they conduct guided tours and excursions, I would be the first one to recommend that they not come.
In this city and area of the country, we take great pride in the safety we have had in our over 29 years of existence and we reinforce it daily from our important space as a reputable academic institution through advice and recommendations that we provide regularly to our students since their arrival.
You may rest reassured that I would be the first one to inform you should there be any changes in the general perception regarding safety for students and visitors in general to our city and area.
Sincerely,
Javier Espinosa
President
