It is possible to obtain DELE certification for three different levels of Spanish speakers: Beginner, Intermediate, and Superior.

Beginner

DELE certification for beginners shows sufficient knowledge of the Spanish language to understand and react to most daily situations, as well as to communicate basic needs and desires.

Reading Comprehension

40 minutes


1. The candidate will answer multiple choice questions related to an informative text.
2. The candidate will select information from a text based on related questions.

Written Expression

50 minutes


Writing brief, practical texts of a practical nature.

Listening Comprehension

30 minutes


The candidate will complete 4 exercises based on simple dialogues or informative recordings, selecting correct answers.

Grammar and Vocabulary

40 minutes


1. The candidate will match sentences with corresponding situations.
2. The candidate will locate words or expressions that do not belong from various sentences.
3. The candidate will select the correct answer to complete a selected text.

Oral Expression

10 minutes


The candidate will maintain a 10 to 15 minute conversation.

 

Intermediate

DELE certification for intermediate level speakers shows sufficient knowledge of the Spanish language to fully immerse the speaker in daily situations that do not require specialized vocabulary.

Reading Comprehension

60 minutes

The candidate will answer 12 multiple choice questions related to 4 texts.  Each text will be no longer than 450 words.

Written Expression

60 minutes


The candidate will write one personal letter and one composition between 150 and 200 words each.

Listening Comprehension

30 minutes


The candidate will answer 12 multiple choice questions about 4 audio texts.  The recordings will consist of advisories, news, conversations or interviews.

Grammar and Vocabulary

60 minutes


The candidate will complete the two following exercises::

    1. Incomplete text (20 blanks): Choose the best answer from three choices to fill each blank.
    2. Fill in the blank with the best answer to complete 40 brief dialogues.  

Oral Expression

10 - 15 minutes


The candidate will maintain a 10 to 15 minute conversation.

 

Superior

DELE certification for superior level speakers shows sufficient knowledge of the Spanish language to fully immerse the speaker in situations that require an elevated knowledge of the language and knowledge of related cultural customs.

Reading Comprehension

60 minutes


The candidate will complete the two following exercises:

    1. Answer 9 multiple choice questions about texts no longer than 900 words.
    2. Complete a maximum of ten incomplete texts.

Written Expression

60 minutes

The candidate will write:

    1. A letter referring to issues of known fields of interest.
    2. A composition.

All writings should have between 150 and 200 words.

Listening Comprehension

45 minutes


The candidate will answer 16 multiple choice questions related to 4 audio texts.  The recordings will consist of conversations between two or more speakers, dealing with commentaries or information transmitted through various means of communication.

Grammar and Vocabulary

60 minutes


The candidate will complete the three following exercises:

    1. Incomplete text (20 blanks)Choose the best answer from three choices to fill in the blank.
    2. Multiple choice exercise: Fill in the blank in 35 incomplete sentences.
    3. Identify 5 grammar errors in one or more brief texts.

Oral Expression

10 - 15 minutes

The candidate will maintain a 10 to 15 minute conversation.
